Orthopaedic Massage

Soft tissue injuries or dysfunctions that impair movement or that cause pain are addressed within the field of Orthopaedics. Orthopaedic Massage is gaining both credence and credibility for addressing specific musculoskeletal dysfunctions.

Orthopaedic massage integrates knowledge of pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system with a comprehensive understanding of the underlying anatomy and matching the physiology of injury or dysfunction to the physiological and psychological benefits of treatment.

The original use of the term “Orthopaedic” related to the correction of childhood deformities and disabilities. Today a more common understanding would be “Pertaining to the speciality concerned with the preservation, restoration and development of form and function of the musculoskeletal system”. Essentially this form of treatment takes a structured scientific approach to normalise muscle length, strength and function.

As a clinician, I have already seen many of my own clients benefit from the effective application of Orthopaedic massage. Many years of clinical experience have indicated that an approach rooted in clinical science, carefully applied with skilful manual techniques can resolve many of today’s musculoskeletal dysfunctions and problems, be they postural, related to injury or adaptive in their origin.
